Introduction to Mr. Yang Jiachi


Yang Jiachi (1919 - 2006) was born in Wujiang, Jiangsu. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1980. He was China’s famous experts in automation and space technology, one of the main pioneers in China’s automation and control technology and aerospace technology, one of the advocates of China’s High-tech Research and Development Program Outline (referred to as “863” plan).

In 1941, he graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University. From 1947 to 1949, he obtained master’s degree and doctoral degree in the Department of Applied Physics of Harvard University. From 1950 to 1955, he served as a researcher at the University of Pennsylvania and a senior engineer at the Rockefeller Institute.

After returning to China in 1956, he worked in the research and development of automation technology and aerospace technology in the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the China Academy of Space Technology. He served as the director, deputy director, superintendent, vice president of the institute, and satellite designer. Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Aerospace, Consultant of the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Technical Consultant of China Academy of Space Technology, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, and Technical Advisor of the Science and Technology Commission of the General Armament Department. In the past 50 years, he has made great contributions to the aerospace industry of China and won many awards. He was awarded the Model of Labor of the Ministry of Aerospace in 1984, the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1985, and the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1987, the old expert with outstanding contribution from the Ministry of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1991, the Chen Jiageng Information Science Award from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award in 1999, and the National Two Bombs and One Satellite Merit Award in 1999.

Yang Jiachi was an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an academician of the International Academy of Astronautics. He served as the chairman of the fifth and sixth councils of the China Association of Automation, Vice Chairman of the International Astronautical Federation, and the third, fourth and fifth NPC deputy.
